Wallowa Lake

Wallowa Lake is known for its calm water and beautiful scenery. Wallowa Lake is quiet and secluded, surrounded by mountains. Wallowa Lake is known for being the gateway to the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area. It is often called "the Switzerland of America". The Lake is approximately 5 miles long, 1 mile wide and 283 feet deep. The lake is surrounded by cabins on the west side, Wallowa Lake State Park on the south end and the Wallowa Lake Highway on the north and east sides.

Various animals call Wallowa Lake home, and a large amount of mule deer inhabit the area. Chipmunks are everywhere and are famous for their begging antics on top of Mount Howard. One pine tree in particular is found in the surrounding Wallowa Mountains. Pinus contorta, lodgepole pine is known for its drastic change from green in the summer to bright gold in the winter time.
 
The weather at Wallowa Lake varies from season to season. During the summer months, July and August, the average temperature on the lake is mid 70's. Thunderstorms are common in the spring and summer. During winter months, the temperature can be as low as the 30's.
